A retiree from the City of Pittsburgh is out thousands of dollars after authorities say he was scammed by someone claiming to be an officer.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said the victim received a call from a person that claimed the victim had two citations for failing to report to jury duty. Advertisement
A second call then came in from someone who said they were a captain from the Sheriff's Office. The number that appeared on the victim's caller ID appeared to be from the office's main line.
The first 'officer' told the victim he could either pay $6,500 to take care of the citations or be arrested or placed in jail. According to the sheriff, the person informed the victim they would be able to get their money back when they went to the courthouse for a handwrit
