DOVER, Ky. (WXIX) - A sheriff is urging residents of a small Kentucky town to remain vigilant as authorities continue to search for a suspected attempted murderer.
“Carry a firearm, we always encourage people to do that,” Mason County Sheriff Ryan Swolsky is telling Dover residents. “Look out for each other, I know in Mason County we do that.”
It has been more than 36 hours since the Brown County Sheriff’s Office said Roy Gene Butler and Jerry Lee Cooper escaped the Ohio jail.
Kentucky State Police say the inmates took a paddle boat down the Ohio River to Dover, where Cooper grew up.
Butler, 51, was apprehended around 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Dover area , according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, but Cooper, 48, remains on the run.
