WA’s first ‘American-style’ shopping centre is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a family-friendly event this Saturday.

When it opened its doors in 1965, Floreat Forum was heavily inspired by the American-style suburbs shopping centres which helped introduce Australians to the concept of a single shopping destination.

The centre now has more than 70 stores, with three original tenants still trading after six decades.

Kicking off at 1pm, the anniversary celebration will feature music, live performers, hands-on crafts, cake decorating, and a discovery trail for visitors.

The public will also be able to step back in time with an exhibition of historic photographs and press articles of the shopping centre’s earliest days.
