NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk will soon see a major boost to its cruise industry as Carnival Freedom makes the city its new homeport in May 2027. The 100,000-ton ship will replace Carnival Sunshine, which has been sailing weekly cruises from Norfolk since February.
Carnival Freedom will debut May 23, 2027, and launch a diverse schedule, including six-day trips to the Bahamas and Bermuda, as well as eight-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean and Canada.
The Conquest-class ship accommodates more than 3,000 guests and features multiple dining venues, a waterpark, and the RedFrog Pub. Officials say the move will strengthen Norfolk’s position in the cruise market and bring millions in tourism spending to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses.
