New York Police Sergeant Nigel Barnett was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of East Fishkill while traveling to work on Sept. 16.

The 49-year-old was a 19-year veteran of the New York State Police, who most recently served as a station commander at State Police Cortlandt, Troop K. He resided in Poughkeepsie.

Many local leaders are now paying respects through online honors, memorials and tributes to Barnett.

In a Facebook post, New York State Police expressed "profound sadness" for the loss, sending "heartfelt condolences" to Barnett's family, friends and colleagues.
