GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A repeat felon was sentenced after authorities say he ran away in the middle of his trial earlier this summer.
Vernon Bryant was given over 10 years on drug and gun charges on Monday.
Greenville detectives searched Bryant’s home back in February 2024. They found a handgun and cocaine, and he was a convicted felon at the time.
Bryant initially went on trial in July. He left during jury discussions and never came back, according to a press release.
Without him there, jurors found Bryant guilty of possession of firearm by a felon, possession of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling to keep and store controlled substances.
Bryant was arrested a few weeks later by Greenville police.
