GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks residents can expect to see more police at community events following an announcement the department made on social media.

Police said they will increase their presence at events after the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

At the city’s first Pride parade on Sunday, Sept. 14, there was increased security.

Lt. Andrew Stein said the department has had ongoing discussions about increasing security since Chief Jason Freedman joined the department in January from Madison, Wisconsin.

"Because of recent national events, we have received no specific threats or anything in our area, but really, and I guess without getting into the details of specific security plans, we want to make sure that the public is as safe as possible," Stein said.
