SALT LAKE CITY – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss Tyler Robinson, Charlie Kirk’s suspected shooter.

Robinson, 22, was accused of fatally shooting Kirk on the campus of Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. The campus is located in Utah County, but Robinson grew up in Washington County. He reportedly turned himself in to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 11.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office held a press conference to explain its role in the investigation.

Sheriff Nate Brooksby said Robinson turned himself in voluntarily. Brooksby said the sheriff’s office was not the lead agency in the investigation, but instead negotiated a peaceful exchange “to make him feel comfortable.”
