See tracks? Think train.

That’s the message from law enforcement agencies across the Chicago area this week.

It’s part of what was formerly known as Rail Safety Week.

To illustrate the importance of safe behaviors around railroad tracks and trains, the Village of Hinsdale Police Department posted a video to their Facebook page of a person crawling under a Metra train.

The video was accompanied by text that read, in part, “Despite all safety features being activated, an individual in this recent video at the Garfield Crossing made the dangerous choice to board a train, risking her life. This is why we have safety campaigns. Catching a train is not worth risking your life.”

Every three hours someone in the U.S. is hit by a train according to the Illinois Commerce Commission.
