Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn’s push to ban mopeds, scooters and other e-bikes from being used to make third-party food deliveries encountered fierce pushback from some of his colleagues who say it would unfairly target immigrant workers.
Flynn on Wednesday introduced an amendment to a mayoral ordinance passed by the City Council in April, as a way to further crack down on third-party delivery drivers who he says flout traffic rules and create a “safety crisis” on city streets.
His amended ordinance, which calls for a ban on motorized bikes being used as third-party delivery vehicles, was not met favorably by at least four councilors at the day’s City Council meeting.
