PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. —

Three people have been arrested after money was allegedly embezzled from the athletic booster club at an Upstate high school.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office began investigating after the School District of Pickens County discovered discrepancies in the Liberty High School Red Devil Athletic Booster Club.

Officials said the booster club is a separate organization from the SDPC; however, the school district periodically reviews organizations associated with schools within the district.

According to deputies, a substantial amount of money was embezzled while Brandy Spivey Karr served as treasurer of the booster club.

Detectives were able to find where the embezzled funds were converted into personal gains for Karr.
