WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a man became trapped under a vehicle on the National Mall, killing him on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, US Park Police and DC Fire and EMS were called to 14th Street and Jefferson Drive, SW, shortly before 3 p.m.
When first responders arrived, they found a man had been trapped under a vehicle on the National Mall.
Crews worked to free the critically injured man, who died at the scene.
MPD's Natural Squad detectives are investigating what happened in the moments leading up to the man becoming trapped. A preliminary investigation leads police to believe the man was injured while trying to load a vehicle onto a truck.
Investigators say the man's death appears to be accidental.
