LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- Apple harvest season is getting underway, and it's going to be a tasty crop.

Remember that long stretch of dry weather over the summer? Well, the lack of rain is concentrating the sugar in the apples, making them much sweeter this season.

"Last year, they weren't as flavorful, like, of course, the wet summer kind of watered down the apple, so when it's dryer, you get higher sugar content and they're sweeter and flavorful," said Sally Brinkman, owner of Ritter's Cider Mill.

An apple orchard in Lackawanna County also makes apple pies and cider. The owner there said they have to use less sugar this year because the apples are extra sweet.
