GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A citywide food competition is bringing more vegan options to Grand Rapids.

Twenty restaurants are part of the Vegan Chef Challenge, serving up one to three new dishes this month for customers to try and vote on. Beyond the competition, many hope it creates lasting change in how people view plant-based food.

Inside San Chez for the last two weeks, chefs have been serving up plant-based creations like "Krabby Patty" benedict, "shrimp" and grits and Spanish chilindron tempeh. Head chef Brandon Just was able to get creative in the kitchen, even though he is not vegan himself.
