(FOX40.COM) – Sacramento's state prison officials are investigating the death of an incarcerated person as a homicide after seeing the cause of death released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office. • Video above: What happens when you call 911?

On July 18, around 6:37 p.m. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said the staff saw 23-year-old Anthony S. Francis Jr. lying on the cell floor unconscious, with Chase E. Jenkins, 38, who was in the cell with him.

CDCR said Francis was rushed to the prison's triage and treatment center area, where a local paramedic pronounced him dead at 7:24 p.m. that day.

On Sept. 11, the coroner's office determined that Francis's cause of death was a homicide.
