Yellowstone National Park's "Days since the last bear attack" board needs to be wiped clean.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 16 a 29-year-old male hiker was injured by a bear while hiking the Turbid Lake Trail, located northeast of Yellowstone Lake.
But on Wednesday, Sept. 17 the hiker, who sustained significant but not life threatening injuries to his chest and left arm, was discharged from the hospital.
It's the first incident of a bear injuring someone in the park since May 2021, when a grizzly injured a solo hiker on the Beaver Ponds Trail in Mammoth Hot Springs.
The hiker had been journeying alone 2.5 miles into the backcountry when he came upon the bear, and was able to deploy bear spray when the bruin made contact. He initially thought the animal was a black bear, but the Na
