It has been a long, long summer for B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad, who spent it criss-crossing the province as part of his party’s leadership review.
Now, as that review barrels toward its conclusion, Rustad is at risk of losing his job as the leader of the official Opposition amid allegations of improper membership sign-ups that aimed to tip the scales in his favour and cement his hold on the Tories.
The leadership review has been continuing since June, with voting taking place regionally and on a riding-by-riding basis. It’s mandated by the party any time it loses an election. Unlike how some parties do it, the Conservatives’ review process counts all votes toward the final tally, instead of assigning each riding a certain number of points based on total membership.
