TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Governor Laura Kelly is requesting a major presidential disaster declaration for the public assistance program due to damage to public infrastructure.
The damage was caused by severe weather in Kansas between July 17 and July 22. The storms brought straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding across 16 counties in the state.
“Our communities continue to be impacted by storms that cause damage to utility infrastructure, roads and bridges,” Kelly said. “It is important to have federal support available to these counties to assist in rebuilding their infrastructure.”
The counties included in the request are: Barton, Comanche, Edwards, Ford, Hodgeman, Johnson, Logan, Marion, Morris, Ottawa, Pawnee, Rawlins, Saline, Stevens, Sumner, and Wyandotte.
