When the 49ers win, there's an extremely high likelihood that star linebacker Fred Warner played an instrumental role in the victory.
That certainly was the case in San Francisco's 26-21 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Caesars Superdome, and Warner was awarded the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor after recording 11 tackles (one for a loss), one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Warner's biggest play of the game came with 1:44 remaining in the third quarter and the 49ers leading the Saints 19-14. The star linebacker closed in on a tackle of New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara and punched the ball out just before Kamara hit the ground, resulting in a timely 49ers turnover.
