The Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has released its third Regional Hispanic Economic Report, highlighting how nearly 600,000 Hispanics are shaping the Greater Sacramento area. The report shows gains in homeownership and rising graduation rates, but also reveals ongoing education gaps. Only 39% of Latino students meet CSU and UC entry requirements compared to 53% of white students, and just 20% of Hispanic adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. Assemblymember Josh Hoover pointed to California’s literacy crisis—ranking last in the nation—as a key barrier, saying Assembly Bill 1454 will help restore phonics and science-based reading instruction. The Chamber says the report serves as a roadmap for policymakers and business leaders to celebrate progress while addressing inequities.
