PORTLAND, Mich. (WILX) -September is National Suicide Awareness Mont. Experts say the temptation of suicide is prevalent in today’s society.

A family from Portland is dealing with the pain of suicide with a kickball tournament in memory of John Hillis to help them cope with the pain and raise money for suicide awareness.

Next to the front yard of Jenny Fedewa’s home in Portland sits a memorial garden to her brother John “Grizzly” Hillis, who was a victim of suicide at the age of 30. A horrific memory for Jenny, her eight siblings and her mother, Diane.

“I went to wake him up to go to work, and he wasn’t in his room, and I went out to the shed, and I found him,” said his mother, Diane.
