LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In today's shaky economy and labor market, you may be trying to find ways to earn an extra buck or land a new, better paying job.
But now the Federal Trade Commission is sending out a warning about random text messages that promise new employment opportunities.
According to new data from the FTC, job and employment scams are on the rise this year.
In fact, you may have received a message that comes out of the blue and promises a great paid opportunity - as long as you reply "yes."
FTC data shows that in the first half of 2025, more than 235,000 text message scams were reported in the U.S., resulting in $342 million in losses.
In quarter one of this year, the FTC says there were about 29,000 reports of job or employment text scams.
