One of Australia's leading mining companies has joined BHP in cutting hundreds of roles in Queensland as the resources sector battles the state government over its royalties regime.
Anglo American Australia conducted a review in light of "ongoing market pressures" and confirmed more than 200 staff had been impacted, predominantly at the miner's Brisbane site, but also in its Central Queensland operations.
Anglo American Australia vice president Ben Mansour said some of the cuts were achieved through voluntary redundancies, including with workers at the company's underground coal mine in Grosvenor, which has been closed since a fire in June last year.
