CAMERON, La. (KPLC) - The Cameron coast has been rocked by multiple hurricanes over the past few years, but it still stands strong. A major reason for that is the people who still live there.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, crews will be cleaning up the Cameron coast, but they need your help

Michele Long, District One Cameron Beachfront Development Chairman and longtime resident, is heading up the District One clean-up.

“(We cover) from Mays Beach to Holly Beach, and District 2 will be from Rutherford Beach to Broussard Beach. We’ve done this for over 35 years. Parish, industry, and community volunteers all come together to keep our beaches clean,” Long said.

The beach sweep has happened for over 30 years. Long said the effort these past years has led to improvements for wildlife.
