GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - On this Constitution Day, bells rang across the country at 4 p.m.— the time many say the Founding Fathers signed one of America’s founding documents — and for the first time, it happened in Greenville County Square.
The Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) Behethland Butler Chapter spearheaded Wednesday’s event— a tradition that dates back to the 1950s.
“The Daughters of the American Revolution were actually instrumental in establishing the bell ringing,” said the chapter’s chaplain, Taffy Lowery. “We ring the bells just to draw people together and help them remember the founding of our country.”
Lowery said many people don’t know about the significant role the Palmetto State played during the American Revolution.
