WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in Windsor are investigating in incident that forced local schools to lock down and residents to shelter in place.

A tactical team led by an armored personnel carrier and followed by snipers arrived to surround a house at the end of Matthew Lane in Windsor on Wednesday. Neighbors said they heard a gunshot, then screeching tires -- followed by lights and sirens as police began to arrive.

JoJo Hulsart, who lives in the area, said officers told her to shelter in place with her dog, Charlie, while they surrounded the home and tried to get two people inside to surrender.

Nearby John F. Kennedy Elementary School went on lockdown. Other schools in the area were released on a delay as school buses tried to navigate the closed roads in the neighborhood.
