ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office will receive a $2 million grant to fund new technology and add more deputies over the next five years.
Officials said the grant will promote transparency with the community while also giving deputies updated tools and support.
“It is a little over $2 million for a five-year contract which gives us the option for new and updated gear, usually about every two years we’ll get new body cameras or new tasers,” said Shane McClendon, chief of staff for the Orangeburg sheriff’s office.
The contract provides funding to upgrade body cameras, tasers and other equipment. It also covers 10 new deputy positions that will be added in the coming years.
