GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Bells across America rang Wednesday as communities celebrated the day the U.S. Constitution was signed and the beginning of Constitution Week.

In Gulfport, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) helped mark the start of the historic week.

Different chapters of DAR rang these bells at exactly 3 p.m. Central Standard Time, for just one minute.

Anna Curtis with the Gulf Coast DAR Chapter says it’s not only them ringing these bells at this moment, but the nation.

“At four o’clock in the afternoon Eastern Time in Philadelphia is when they rang all the church bells,” Curtis said. “All over the country at their local time, which would represent four o’clock eastern time, they’re ringing the bells.”
