How it started: A 17-year-old, newly-graduated-from-high-school Jacqueline LaFlamme carries a portable record player and some vinyl from town hall to town hall to teach dance classes in the 1950s. How it’s going: Miss Jackie’s Studio of Dance is voted one of the Top 30 Best Dance Schools in New England, and celebrates its 70th anniversary this dance season.
Generations of kids have passed through the doors of the Rutland studio in Howe Center, where it’s been for 35 years — and a lot of them, or their children, are still there. Miss Jackie’s legacy lives on through her daughter, Jennifer Garrow, and granddaughter Bethany Garrow Maguire, and they all started dancing at age 3.
