BASS LAKE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Bass Lake Unified School District just bought tampon dispensers for their boys' bathrooms.

Board member Michelle Townsend says the move will rectify the district from being "out of compliance."

"It's the law. It went into effect in 2023. We've been out of compliance for several years. If we didn't have it, we would've been docked for that," she said during Wednesday's school board meeting.

The law she was referencing: California State Assembly Bill 367, which "promotes gender equity for girls, women, and transgender and non-binary people and helps ensure their health, safety, and dignity," according to the ACLU.

To promote this equity, each school site is required to have one boy's bathroom with a female hygiene dispenser.
