U.S. President Donald Trump has applauded the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night TV show.
Earlier this week, the presenter referenced the death of Charlie Kirk in his monologue and directly addressed Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters.
"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterise this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them," he stated.
Kirk, a right-wing political activist, was shot and killed at an event held at Utah Valley University on 10 September. Police investigators have not yet confirmed the suspect's motive.
And after an ABC spokesperson confirmed Jimmy Kimmel Live! had been halted on Wednesday due to network bosses "strongly objecting" to recent comments made by Kimmel, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to praise the decision.
"Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done," he declared.
Trump went on to take aim at other leading U.S. talk show hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers.
"Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that's possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!" the American leader continued.
Kimmel has not yet publicly responded to ABC's move.
However, the TV personality is reportedly "absolutely f**king livid" over ABC's move, with a producer telling The Daily Mail that he is currently meeting with network bosses over the matter.
Trump, 79, is currently in Windsor, England for a state visit with King Charles III and other U.K. leaders.
