The state pensioners having their Winter Fuel Payments reduced to £100 from £300 have been revealed. State pensioner couples are at risk from having their Winter Fuel Allowances reduced - and in some cases HALVED - by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ).

For pensioner couples, the payment will usually be split between you, BBC and ITV star Martin Lewis' team at Money Saving Expert explains. MSE says: "A simple example helps to illustrate this.

"Where a £200 payment is due for a two-pensioner household, each will be paid their share of £100 directly. If one individual earns £40,000 then – as it's above the clawback threshold – their £100 will be reclaimed through the tax system.
