An application for a provisional licence for a Saltcoats shop has been rejected by licensing chiefs because of over-provision in the area. ‌

A neighbour also voiced concerns about potential disorder in the community if it was allowed. ‌

Kajendar Thangarasa applied for the licence for Wee Local Shop in Old Raise Road. ‌

He proposed an alcohol display area of 21 sqm although added he would be willing to reduce that.

North Ayrshire Licensing Board were asked to consider their policy on over-provision.

Mr Thangarasa said: “The shop was completely empty when I took it on, there were not many businesses in the area. ‌

“It is my first business and I want to make it bigger in the future. I will bring more job opportunities and hopefully people will support me.”
