LONDON — President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday, marking the second day of his state visit to the United Kingdom. The meeting will take place at Chequers, the prime minister's official residence located in Buckinghamshire, north of London.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are expected to leave Windsor Castle at 10:30 a.m. local time, which is 5:30 a.m. ET. They will participate in a farewell ceremony with King Charles III and Queen Camilla before departing. The bilateral meeting between Trump and Starmer is set for 11:15 a.m. local time, followed by a press conference at 2:20 p.m.
The agenda for the meeting is likely to include several pressing global issues. Key topics may involve Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the growing threat to NATO's eastern flank, and the escalating conflict in Gaza, where Israel's military actions are intensifying.
Trump's visit follows a recent meeting where Starmer and other European leaders met with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Trump's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Despite initial optimism regarding security guarantees, no significant progress has been reported since that meeting.
The Trumps are expected to depart London around 5 p.m. local time, aiming to arrive back at the White House by 8:10 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, Trump was welcomed at Windsor Castle with a grand military reception and met with the royal family. During their visit, the Trumps laid a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II and participated in a service at the castle's chapel.
Later, they attended a state banquet with notable guests, including business leaders from various industries. In his remarks at the banquet, King Charles emphasized the strong relationship between the U.S. and the U.K., stating, "Our people have fought and died together for the values we hold dear. The ocean may still divide us, but in so many ways we are now the closest of kin."
Trump reciprocated the sentiments, highlighting the historical ties between the two nations. He remarked on the U.K.'s contributions to law and liberty and stressed the importance of the bond between the U.S. and the U.K. "Together, we must defend the exceptional heritage that makes us who we are," he said.
