OWENSBORO, Ky. — Eighth-grader Mario Pearson couldn’t hide his excitement as he stepped onto the Owensboro Community and Technical College campus, surrounded by greenery and the promise of horse sightings.

“I wanted to learn about animal science,” Pearson said. “I like it. I like the nature out here. It’s like a lot of greenery I like to see. But I’m really looking forward to seeing the horses. I like to ride horses, but I don’t get to do it often.”

Pearson was among hundreds of Owensboro Public Schools students diving into real-world agriculture experiences this week as part of a district-wide initiative tied to Kentucky’s official Agriculture Week.
