The devastated family of a 16-year-old boy who was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident on Tuesday night said watching him fight for his life in hospital is the “hardest thing we’ve ever faced.”

Police said a “group of youths” were riding unregistered motorcycles on Georgetown Drive in Safety Bay when the driver of a Suzuki Grand Vitara — a 40-year-old woman — was involved in an incident with the young rider of a blue Yamaha motorcycle.

A police spokesman said the 16-year-old rider lost control of his bike and crashed, leaving him with serious injuries.

He was rushed by paramedics to Royal Perth Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said the boy was in a critical condition in the intensive care unit on Wednesday morning.
