LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The UNL College Republicans met for the first time Wednesday night since Charlie Kirk’s death last week.

The meeting centered on the most current news of the day, but most topics discussed still led back to Kirk, who was fatally shot at a university event in Utah on Sept. 10 .

After the meeting, UNL’s Turning Point USA Chapter held a candlelight vigil in honor of Kirk.

Nicklas Stefanic, the secretary for the UNL College Republicans, says the university has helped make everyone feel welcome on campus following the assassination.

“I think that they’ve done an awesome job in responding to this; it’s very respectful for the most part, and I’m hoping to see that continue,” he said. “I really just want to see a somber moment from people on our campus.”
