Fruit flies. The pests of our kitchens and homes that reproduce faster than you may realise.

The insects can progress from an egg to adulthood in around eight to 10 days before once more producing eggs quickly.

While fruit flies appear year round, lots of UK households report an increase in the number towards the end of the summer as the autumn commences.

And as autumn is truly in full swing, the 3mm long insects are back in full swing. A fruit fly can be identified by their small body which is black on the top and grey underneath, but they can be brown or tan with red eyes.
