Outgoing Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante believes Thursday’s inauguration of a sixth United Nations office in Montreal reflects the environmental and housing agenda she championed during her nearly eight-year term.

Nearly three years after its announcement, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, known as UN-Habitat, is opening its project office in Montreal with an initial team of nine employees and a mission that includes promoting “inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements.”
