MICHIGAN CITY — A 72-year-old Michigan City man convicted earlier this year of causing a death while driving intoxicated was again found guilty Wednesday, this time on four counts of sex crimes involving children, according to the county prosecutor's office.

A jury found Alvin Speakes guilty Wednesday on two counts of child molesting and two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, records show.

Speakes, who was charged in March 2021 with multiple acts that occurred between 2007 and 2014, is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 16.

"Crimes against children are hideous," LaPorte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan said in a prepared statement. "The harm against victims can never totally be healed."

Fagan said he is, however, pleased with Wednesday's guilty verdicts.
