COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police say one person is dead and two others were injured following a shooting on the east side Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 3200 block of Sterling Lane near Stelzer Road around 9:25 a.m.

Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua said shots were fired from inside and outside of an apartment building.

A Columbus public safety dispatcher told 10TV that two people were injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital.

In an update, Fuqua said one person died from the shooting. He added that two others were injured, but their wounds were not life-threatening.

According to Fuqua, the gunman was taken into custody.

Details on what led to the shooting were not immediately available.
