An Oklahoma family welcomed twin girls into the world on Mother’s Day this year but not in the way they expected.
“They were ready to come out,” said Steffany Decker, the twins’ mother.
After going into premature labor, Steffany went to the hospital in Lawton where doctors stopped it, but not for long.
“I just sneezed, and my water broke,” Steffany said.
Everley and Haisley Decker were born nearly two months premature, arriving at just 29 weeks gestation. Each weighed just over two pounds. One was born with a hole in her heart. Both were immediately transferred from Lawton to Oklahoma Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, where they spent 71 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
“Every day is a new scare, every day is a new test, every day is something else,” said Steffany.
