Former Dallas Cowboys star linebacker D.D. Lewis has died, the organization announced on Wednesday. He was 79 years old.
Lewis spent 13 seasons in the NFL, all with the Dallas Cowboys , after being drafted in the sixth round of the 1968 NFL Draft.
He remains the Cowboys all-time leader in postseason games played with 27.
Prior to being drafted to the Cowboys, D.D. Lewis was an All-American at Mississippi State and was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 1967. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
The Cowboys official site referred to him as "one of the most underappreciated players in franchise history," in its release announcing his death.
