A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Toronto. The incident occurred late Saturday night, resulting in the death of 43-year-old Paulin Harusha.

Toronto Police Det. Sgt. Alan Bartlett announced on Thursday that 34-year-old Meelad Tarin is wanted for first-degree murder. “To Meelad Tarin, I have a message for you,” Bartlett said. “Seek counsel and turn yourself in. If you know where Mr. Tarin is and are found to be harbouring or aiding him in any way, be assured, we will investigate and lay charges as appropriate.”

Police believe Tarin remains within the jurisdiction. The shooting took place around 11:55 p.m. in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Harusha inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bartlett stated that multiple shots were fired during the incident, and the suspect fled in a light-colored SUV. He confirmed that police are currently only seeking Tarin and are not looking for any additional suspects.

Investigators are exploring the relationship between Harusha and Tarin, noting that there was some familiarity between the two. However, Bartlett refrained from providing further details, stating, “I can tell you that there was some familiarity between the two of them but beyond that, I’d be speculating at this point.”

He also did not disclose whether either man had a criminal history or if a weapon had been recovered. The death of Harusha has deeply affected his family. “Mr. Harusha has a family that is devastated,” Bartlett said. “He has friends. The loss has left a hole in this family. We are here to seek justice for Mr. Harusha.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Tarin's whereabouts to contact the police at 416-808-7400 or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
