Just because Mason McTavish remains unsigned doesn’t mean he’s not putting in the work ahead of the season.
The restricted Anaheim Ducks free agent has begun skating with the OHL’s Ottawa 67s as he awaits a new contract, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday.
Friedman added that the delay is mostly due to term, with the Ducks preferring to sign him long term rather than to a bridge deal. The two sides have failed to find a common ground so far, per Friedman.
With the departure of Trevor Zegras over the off-season, McTavish now leads the young contingent on the Ducks and will be expected to take a step forward in his fifth NHL season.
He had career highs last season in goals (22) and assists (30) while also notching the highest average ice time of his career at 16:53 per game.
