Gary man charged after alleged stabbing, fire

A Gary man is facing charges after stabbing his mother on Sept. 10 as she slept at the kitchen table, then later set the house on fire, according to court documents.

Terrance D. Taylor, 23, was charged Sept. 12 with attempted murder, aggravated battery, arson and two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon.

He is in custody, held on an $8,000 cash bond. Taylor told a Lake County magistrate judge Monday that he plans to represent himself.

The wounded woman drove herself to the Gary Police station.

She told a detective that after she dozed off on the 1300 block of Willard Street, her son stabbed her in the neck and back.

“You should have let me die,” he said.

She didn’t know what he meant. When she tried to escape, he pushed her down
