ELYRIA, Ohio — Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing says the two officers wounded in the July 23 ambush that killed Officer Phillip Wagner will both face lengthy recoveries.
He gave the update during a Thursday press conference hosted by Elyria police, where investigators described the ambush as a “deliberate and evil plan” carried out by 28-year-old Michael Parker.
Officer Peter Gale, who was shot in the hand, has undergone surgery and is continuing to recover. Failing said Gale is expected to be out six to eight months before returning to duty.
Officer Brent Payne, who was struck multiple times while responding to the scene, recently underwent major surgery after his arm was completely shattered. His recovery is expected to take at least a year.
