A recent article in The Baltimore Sun highlighted how Medicaid work requirements have always caused problems and denied coverage to eligible people ( “He built Michigan’s Medicaid work requirement system. Now he’s warning other states,” Sept. 9). The inclusion of a similar initiative in the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” will harm our behavioral health system and the people who depend on it.
The law mandates all states to implement a work requirement by Dec. 31, 2026. Single adults enrolled in Medicaid will have to prove they are working at least 80 hours per month as a condition of eligibility.
