ATLANTA — The Georgia NAACP is "deeply disturbed" after a rope was found hanging from a tree near Georgia State and is asking for the campus to investigate.
The rope was found hanging from a tree outside the APEX Museum , a building that shares African American history.
Atlanta Police, along with state Homeland Security agents, responded to the parking lot of the museum on Wednesday, Sept. 17, to investigate.
Many people have called the rope a "noose," but police said it is too small to be classified as one.
"A noose is not a prank--it is a threat. It is a symbol of racial terror, historically used to intimidate and silence Black communities through fear and violence. Its presence on any campus is unacceptable," said the NAACP in a statement.
