CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The seventh named storm of hurricane season has formed in the Atlantic, but what does that mean for North Carolina?
Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed on Thursday, Sept. 18, but wasn’t expected to become a hurricane until overnight Sunday into early Monday morning, Sept. 22.
By that point, it should be over Bermuda if the National Weather Service’s current prediction holds true. But of course, that could very well change between now and then.
According to WBTV meteorologists, Gabrielle may bring large swells and rip currents to beaches in North and South Carolina, but that should be about the size of it. The Carolinas are not anticipated to take direct hits from the storm.
